What is EVO
Empowering Voices Online (EVO) is a pilot project that will help people use the internet effectively to communicate their point of view. The internet is stereotyped as being a hotbed of extremists spouting conspiracy theories, fomenting revolution. That and pictures of cats.
As always there is some truth in a stereotype. The truth is that the internet allows anyone to communicate and influence people effectively. There are a wide variety of tools that are being used: Wordpress, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, & YouTube. The effective use of these tools allows individuals and organisations to listen to communities and spread their message far beyond their circle of face to face contacts.
EVO is a coaching programme that consists of a one day workshop and follow up coaching that will help you become effective online communicators. On the programme you’ll learn:
- What the various tools are most effective for
- How to use a blog as the central point of your internet communications
- How to:
use the software
blog effectively
embed video and audio - new ways to reach out to new people
- effective online conversation
- “netiquette”
The follow up coaching takes place online and via telephone so help is there just when you need.
When does it happen?
The pilot programme kicks off in January 2010 in London, Birmingham and Yorkshire. The coaching will be available for 6 months after each workshop.
How much does it cost?
The coaching is being provided by the team behind the successful CivicSurf project and is free. Spaces however are limited. You’ll need access to the internet and the very powerful blogging software can be used for free.
How can I sign up?
We’re running a set of seminars. We’ll post the dates as they become available. If you would like to organise a seminar in your area please email shane@empoweringvoicesonline.org.uk
Are you going to tell me what to write?
Are you kidding? The first rule you’ll hear is that a blog should be authentic. The last thing we’ll do is tell you what to write. You have to do that bit by yourself. We’ll help with the rest.
